Adam’s Folly Status Check

It was time for a gravity check on the standard cider I started a few weeks ago. After getting everything sanitized, I took a sample and measured the gravity to be 1.002. This seems a little low than most of my standard ciders, even with the US-05 yeast. I also added the stabilizing chemicals – 2.5 tsp of potassium sorbate and 4 tablets of sodium metabisulphite. Normally I use 5 tablets of potassium metabisulphite, but I ordered the sodium version this time around without realizing. I’ve heard the sodium taste can be noticeable sometimes, which is why I dropped it down to 4 tablets.

Tasting notes:

This tastes pretty close to every standard cider I’ve made, although I do think it might be a little more thin than usual. This the first time using US-05 with the the Essential Everyday cider, and the gravity was lower than usual, so that might explain it. I’ll be cold crashing this soon, and maybe adding some gelatin to help clear it up before getting it kegged for this weekend.
